The History and Numismatic Output of the Province of Aquitania in Gaul

GAUL, Aquitania.

Main Mint: Arverni

South-western France, bordered by the Pyrenees, this part of Gaul was home to tribes such as the Biturges and Arverni. Caesar conquered this territory during his Gallic wars of 58-50 BC. The earliest coins issued there were imitations, of varying degrees of crudeness, of Hispanic drachmas of Rhode and Emporia.
